Abstract

Mixed ligands complexes of caffeine, phenanthroline, thiocyanato or cyano were prepared and characterized by molar conductivity measurements, FT-IR, UV-Visible, EPR, DTA/DTG and X-ray diffraction studies. The complexes are of 1:1:2:2 (metal:phen:caf:cyano or thiocyanato) stoichiometry of general formula M(phen)(caf)2X2 where X=CN-, SCN-, M= Co(II), Fe(II), Mn(II), Cu(II), caf: caffeine; phen:phenanthroline, are non-electrolytes in dimethylsulfoxide. The ATG/DTG curves provided information on the thermal stabilities and thermal decomposition of new synthesized complexes. The powder-diffraction data for complexes show that these complexes are crystallized in a monoclinic system. The FT-IR, UV-Visible, EPR, spectroscopic data suggested that the complexes have octahedral cis-trans geometry.
