Abstract

The study of zircon, coupled with petrographic and geochemical studies, of Hercynian granitoïds from Moroccan Meseta allows the distinction of two different areas: (1) The Eastern Meseta with mainly potassic calc-alkaline granitoïds with zircon characterized by very high T̄ index, showing the homogeneity of this area. (2) The Western Meseta, magmatically heterogeneous, shows a NW-SE increasing of zircon T index: the low T̄ index calc-alkaline granites (group 4a) are followed southestwards by the aluminous anatectic granites and the high T index calc-alkaline granites (group 4b-c). Taking into account the zircon typological datas, spatial distribution and granites ages, a SE magmatic zoning is carried out. A geodynamical model within a subduction-collision framework is proposed. © 1997 Elsevier Science Limited.
