Abstract

The Rheris watershed is located in the southeast Morocco; it extends over an area of 12702 km2, dominated by a semi-arid climate. The geological context consists mainly of Plio-quaternary formations, calcareous of the Mesozoic, sandstone and shale of the Paleozoic. The objective of this work is to establish, using a geographic information system (GIS), a water resource mapping of the Rheris watershed, particularly the definition of the main aquifer systems and the distribution of wells / boreholes, springs, khettaras and stream network. To achieve this objective, we use features and possibilities for analysis offered by GIS to process and evaluate the climatological, geological, hydrological and hydrogeological aspects which are necessary before any update on the situation of water resources in the study area. The final result is a map that may help for management and planning of water resources, intended for water users and decision makers.
