Abstract

This study focuses on the analysis of the recent Tissoufa landslide, located on the southern flank of Jbel Outka in Central Rif (northern Morocco). The mass movement is a rotational complex landslide, in a context of thrust nappe. The geological environment is characterized by a superposition of Numidian resistant sandstone-quartzite beds on Senonian schistose gray marls and loose Cretaceous schist. We present a geological, morphological and environmental study site in order to describe the main features to help understand the genesis and the mechanisms of this landslide. The main parameters triggering the slip are the steep slopes (> 30 °), the high rainfall (1400 mm / year), the texture and the mineralogy of the materials (clays and silts, weak cohesion). The anthropogenic factors consist mainly of deforestation and the extension of cultivated areas and the change of hydraulic properties of soil cover following the installation of an artificial irrigation system by the villagers. © 2018 Geo-Eco-Trop.
