Abstract

This paper presents a new design of passive UHF RFID tag antenna suitable for metallic objects. The proposed antenna tag is based on a suspended patch with inserted slots in order to miniaturize the antenna size combined with a shorting strip inserted in parallel with the feeding port which permits to achieve the impedance matching. The performances of the proposed tag antenna are evaluated and analyzed based on gain, return loss, matching input impedance and read range and carried out by ADS from Agilent technologies and CST Microwave Studio electromagnetic solvers. This antenna has a total area of 74×28mm2 and mounted on a FR4 substrate with a constant dielectric permittivity, equal to 4.4, a thickness of 0.5mm and a loss tangent of 0.025.The simulated bandwidth at the UHF RFID band is about 28MHz, which covers the North and South American UHF RFID band (902-928MHz). The gain obtained into simulation of this antenna is 1.6 dB at 915MHz and the simulated read range is 5.7m. © 2017 Association for Computing Machinery.
