Abstract

Assessing the impact of pollution from sewage discharged into Boufekrane river was performed by monitoring the spatial variation of 15 physico-chemical parameters and 5 bacteriological parameters of 36 water samples taken at level of 9 stations on a profile of 30 km along the river that runs through the Boufekrane town and Meknes city. Compared to previous studies conducted in 1990, 1996, 2007 and 2009, before the installation of treatment plant wastewater, the results show a marked improvement in water quality, except at the station (S7) which pollution indicator parameters (dissolved oxygen, COD, Oxidising, phosphates, turbidity) have peaks marked. Indeed, this pollution comes from sewage spills from some areas of Meknes city, which are not yet connected to the sewerage system for transfer to the treatment plant. Despite spills water Boufekrane commune, indicators parameters of pollution at the station S5 (Boufekrane below) are only slightly affected, because of the self purifying capacity of the river. Statistical analysis of data by PCA and CFA confirmed the results obtained by ranking the different study sites along a gradient of increasing water pollution from upstream (stations S1, S2 less polluted) downstream of the river (S7 more polluted).
