Abstract

The chelation of various metal ions by raw chitin has demonstrated the effectiveness of the polymer in heavy metals removal from wastewater. The aim of this study is to develop a novel treatment support for wastewater using the ash obtained by treatment at height temperature of raw chitin extracted from shrimps (Ccre). The characterization of various solid by RX and IR show a new phases formed as Ca(OH)2 and loses of others at height temperature treatment. The amount of Cu2+ adsorbed on bummed raw chitin increased with increasing the bum temperature of material up to 800°C. This evolution is in conformity with the Freundlich model giving a hight value of Kf. These variations in metal adsorption are attributed to the difference between the material composites by creating the new sites of adsorption beside the nitrogen atom existing in the original chitin.
