Abstract

The objective of the study was to analyze the chemical composition of the essential oil isolated from different wild growing species of thyme: Thymus riatarum, Thymus munbyanus and Thymus leptobotrys originating from different locations in Morocco for the classification of chemo types. The essential oils were isolated by hydro distillation and analyzed by gas chromatography coupled with mass spectrometry (GS/MS). This technique identified 39 components in the oil of T. munbyanus from Itzer representing (92.38) of total oils and (86.85) for T.munbyanus from Taza. 40 components in T. leptobotrys (83.48) and 33 components in T.riatarum (87.71).The main components were camphor (24.87, 27.76) for the essential oils of T. munbyanus from Itzer and T.munbyanus from Taza respectively, carvacrol (31.98) for the oil of T. leptobotrys and borneol (31.13) for the oil of T. riatarum.
