We have studied the inelastic scattering, accompanied by the transfer of ℓ photons, of low incoming electrons by helium atoms, in the presence of a laser field. The second-order Born approximation has been used to calculate the differential cross sections. Detailed calculations of the scattering amplitudes are performed by using the Sturmian basis expansion. We discuss the influence of the low-energy electrons on the differential cross section for various geometrical configurations. Our second-order Born approximation results agree with those obtained in the first-order Born approximation at larger incident electron energies.
