Marbles sampled from the quarries of Sidi-Lamine and Tiskram in the region of Khenifra, Oued Yquem in the region of Skhirate/Rabat and from the quarries of Rossini and Sahara in the region of Tiflet have been characterized by mean of X-ray diffraction (XRD), Raman scattering and EPR spectrometry techniques. In all samples, calcite has been identified as the main crystal phase with low levels of dolomite and quartz. The characteristics of Mn2+ and Fe3+ ions (impurities), and those of punctual defects (induced by natural radioelements irradiation) depend on the sampling quarry; they are likely to be used as provenance indicators in archaeometric studies. © 2017 Elsevier Masson SAS
